1173 (1103) photoinitiator chemical name is 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone, abbreviated as HMPP. Colorless or slightly yellow transparent liquid. Soluble in toluene, acrylate, methacrylate and the like. It is easy to be miscible with resin, has high efficiency, good thermal stability, no yellowing and stable storage. Foreign brands are Darocur-1173 (Switzerland).

Photoinitiator 1173 is currently the most successful type of photoinitiator and one of the most widely used non-yellowing photoinitiators in China, with a maximum absorption wavelength of 331 nm. It is combined with polyester, acrylate, reactive diluent and the like to form a photocurable adhesive. However, in the unsaturated polyester/styrene system, the photoinitiation efficiency of HMPP is inferior to that of benzoin ether photoinitiator. It can also be used in aqueous UV curing systems. The reference dosage is 1.0% to 5.0%. In the case where the odor is more stringent, the photoinitiator is not suitable because the residual initiator is volatile, and the photolysis of the initiator produces trace amounts of benzaldehyde and acetone, which may result in excessive odor.

Photoinitiator 1173 is a versatile highly efficient Free Radical Type I liquid photoinitiator which is used to initiate the UV polymerization of chemically unsaturated prepolymers (e.g. acrylates) in combination with mono- or multi-functional monomers and oligomers.
